it was about time! giveaway!

Lately I’ve been such a lucky blogger and knitter – winning in giveaways all over the place! Now, I’m not one to scoop up all the sweets and eat them on my own, so I’ve decided to give a bit back. :) Thus, here I am presenting to you the second fridica giveaway :)

The theme this time is designers, and I would like to present to you a very special young designer who has given me her kind permission to give away one of her patterns! Connie Chang Chinchio describes herself as a trained physicist who “works on environmental health science research between sweaters”. Just another piece of evidence that knitters extraordinaire come from every possible occupation and that, regardless what they were originally, knitting does not fail to take over one’s life. :)

My favourite in Connie’s designs are her cardigans, which are invariably simple yet interesting.

The squishy Metro

The intriguing Geodesic

And the feminine Printed Silk

Connie has also designed some wonderful hats and mittens, which brings us back to the giveaway! :) The Cayuga Set is a pattern for matching hat and mittens featuring cute bobbles. It rings very Christmassy to me and I think it would make a wonderful gift for your loved ones or yourself ;) And if you’re not into matching, then you can just make one or the other. The choice is yours – you get the whole set!

So, you can win a pattern for a hat & mittens set and as an extra, I’ll throw in 436 yards of aran weight yarn from my stash! The yarn should be sufficient to make the set, if you like, but of course it’s up to you to use it for whatever you please.

What do you need to do? Comment on this post, and in your comment, leave me a link to your favorite knitwear designer (it can be a website, blog or Ravelry link :) Please keep it to one link because otherwise my spam filter won’t let you through. Feel free, but not obliged, to tell others about the giveaway in any form you like.

It’s one entry per person, and you have until the end of the day on November 29th.

I’ll select the winner by random number draw and announce who it is on November 30th. Oh, and one more thing – I will ship anywhere in the world, so feel free to sign your name even if you are from Tasmania, Zanzibar, Alaska or Siberia!

Let’s take it away… :)

About fridica

I started knitting completely by accident, when I was visiting my parents for a holiday in 2008. On a boring Sunday afternoon, I decided to dig through their stash of books to see if there was anything interesting to take back to my apartment. A knitting manual happened to be one of the books I found. I got curious, my mom immediately dug out her old needles and yarn stash (which she hadn’t used in a decade at least), and in a few minutes we were both casting on - she by memory, I by following the instructions from the book… :) Since I normally prefer learning from books, this was ideal.. I took the book home with me, and very very soon - I was an addict.

  1. I’ve made the Metro and absolutely love it. It goes with everything-dress it up or down easily. Another designer I like is Kate at http://needled.wordpress.com/

I have the o w l on my to-do list and am very entertained by the tortoise and the hare jumper-maybe some day. Thanks for sharing some great web sites with us.

  2. Very cool giveaway. It’s nice that you are trying to “give-back” I think my favorite Knitwear Designer would be Cookie A and her sock patterns, even though I haven’t made any of her yet! I’m getting there though….

  3. Yay! Another giveaway! I love Geodesic. Once I get up the nerve I’m going to give it a shot. Favorite designer? I’m only just starting to realize the styles I like and who makes them, so I’d have to say Hannah Fettig at http://knitbot.com/. Her pieces seem effortless and I can’t wait to see more from her. Thanks for doing this giveaway!

  4. Well, I’m not quite from Tasmania, but I am from Australia and thought that was such a cute comment about those of us from far away that I’d enter. I have your blog on my reader but I’m not sure I’ve commented before…shy and all that. Anyway – my favourite designer is Veronik Avery.
    http://www.veronikavery.com/

I know she’s a big one but whenever I flick through a magazine and pause it usually turns out to be one of hers.

  5. I love those cardigans of Connie’s that you feature – especially Metro. It looks an interesting knit and very elegant. One of my favourite designers (and I’m knitting a cardigan of hers right now) is Sarah Hatton, who used to design for Rowan until recently.

  6. Let’s see who I have listed in my blog as favourites… There are Brooklyntweed and Connie Chang Chinchio, Ilukuduja and The Shetland Trader and… Well, quite many. :)
But currently my top favourite designers are ancient Muhu women, some of whose work is gathered in a book “Meite Muhu mustrid” from
    http://www.saara.ee/uus/index.php
the same publisher who gave out “Haapsalu sall”. ;)

  7. There are so many great designers it’s hard to pick one. I’ll mention a local (to me) designer who just published a great book of hats and mittens. Mandy Powers of Zigzagstitch!

  8. This will probably change over time but at the moment I really like Stefanie Japel: http://www.stefaniejapel.com/ I knitted Forecast recently and I’ve been going through Fitted Knits to find my next sweater (and I have another one of hers in my queue that’s in Interweave Knits). I’m a big fan of her construction at the moment – good for a newbie to sweaters. :)

  9. What a sweet giveaway! I am trying to pick ONE favourite, and if it’s just one, I’m going to have to go with Jared Flood. I have just acquired some of his Shelter yarn and now I am even more of a fangirl, it’s amazing stuff.
I love these patterns – had somehow missed Metro but the hat and mittens had caught my eye before so I will be crossing my fingers!

  10. I too am a big fan of Hannah Fettig at http://knitbot.com/. I have several of her patterns in my queue!
I love Connie’s designs as well and am just getting into my first pattern of hers–the Austin Hoodie!
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  11. I am not a big sweater knitter, but I do have finished one sweater by Connie Chang Chinchio, the lovely ‘soap bubble wrap’. You can see it on my Ravelry page – I am Dominique003
Another designer I really like is Hanne Falkenberg – http://www.knit.dk
Oh, and I am in Belgium….

  12. Lovely! There are many wonderful designers to choose from, but on my list there is one above them all. My favourite designer is Helga Isager (www.amimono.dk).

  13. I love Connie’s design, and have made several of them! Would love to make that set too!
Right now I’m very into Veera Välimäki’s designs. Cute but still very wearable for everyday-life.

  14. I enjoyed knitting and love wearing Connie’s Geodesic. She’s such a great designer and I can’t wait for her book to be published, woot woot! My other favorite designer is the talented Cecily Glowik MacDonald who seems to be churning out great patterns by the dozen!

  15. My favorite designer is Kathy Merrick. I have her book “Crochet in Color” She does not have a website. She has gotten some c*** on Rav because as the designer of the Babette Blanket, people wank when she won’t give them the pattern or they change the pattern and it doesn’t work. I have met her in RL and think she’s great. I love that she stands up for herself and is a strong woman!

  18. I am so glad that I made it on time! I have never won anything online, but I never loss my hopes.
Hat and mitt set are lovely indeed, I would love that pattern. And you are so kind to send yarn with it, your heart must be huge! and that it’s always good.
My favorite designer is Ysolda (http://www.ravelry.com/designers/ysolda-teague).

  19. Good thing you entered my giveaway – otherwise I would not have seen that YOU are doing one, too!

Lately I’ve been looooving Kate Davies: http://needled.wordpress.com/

I knit Owls over the summer, and I can’t wait for my holiday knitting to be done so I can tackle another one of her sweaters!

  20. Props for hosting this awesome giveaway.
Besides Connie (I’ve been a fan since her Connie Chang sans Chinchio days), I’m a big fan of Melissa Wehrle and Cirilla Rose (of Berroco)
