do you wear your knits?

Last weekend, during our standard Saturday-morning coffee date, my best friend was playing with her nice new camera. I was chewing on a large sandwich and I hadn’t washed my hair or put on any make-up, but I had no choice than to play model for her. Or rather, as she put it, “just ignore her and act natural”. Umm, yeah. :D

Contrary to my expectations, though, I ended up with some nice photos of me, and one very nice photo of my Scroll Lace Scarf. This hadn’t been planned, I had just thrown it on that morning, as on many other mornings. It reflected the fact that, while I keep very few of my knits to myself, I really do wear those that I keep.

So I thought we could have a little challenge! In the next week, post a photo of yourself wearing something you knit. The only rule is that the photo must not have been taken with the aim of showing off your knitted item, it should be a sort of everyday photo, or a photo from a special event, in which the knitted item just happened to find itself.

Put the link to your photo in the comments below, and let us know when the photo was taken and what you were doing. You have until the end of Friday, January 28! On Saturday, I’ll let the random number generator do its magic and put together a nice little prize for one lucky person!

You can post the photo on your blog, on Flickr (or similar sites), on your Ravelry project page. If none of those are available to you, Imageshack offers a nifty service which allows you to upload a single photo and get the link to it without having to register or anything.

All clear? Let’s play! :)

About fridica

I started knitting completely by accident, when I was visiting my parents for a holiday in 2008. On a boring Sunday afternoon, I decided to dig through their stash of books to see if there was anything interesting to take back to my apartment. A knitting manual happened to be one of the books I found. I got curious, my mom immediately dug out her old needles and yarn stash (which she hadn’t used in a decade at least), and in a few minutes we were both casting on - she by memory, I by following the instructions from the book… :) Since I normally prefer learning from books, this was ideal.. I took the book home with me, and very very soon - I was an addict.

  1. Nosim samo šalove koje sam si isplela! I jednu garter stitch vestu! I to je to!
Porazno, zar ne, uzevši u obzor koliko štrikam! šmrc.
No, ove godine mi je na famoznoj “to-do” listi bukle kaput za mene!

  2. I wear all my knits, and I wear them a lot. I’m what the French call a “frileuse” (someone who gets cold easily), and my knitting is good and warm.

Anyway, here are my Kat Hat and Cashmere Cowl, doing headwarming duty while I try to sleep off the flu last Wednesday.

  3. I thought I was going to have loads of pictures because I wear my hand knits all the time, but I’m struggling to find any nice ones. It appears that most of my pictures are from going out at night or the summer. Not very knit friendly.

I do have a handful of pictures where you can see my hat and cowl like in this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andipants/5378793995/
This is from my 21st birthday. We were walking to the bus stop to go out to eat, but we were running late so the guys were walking really quickly and my friend Hayley was wearing heels and couldn’t keep up. I ended up somewhere in the middle because I didn’t want to leave her behind. She took this picture of me.

  4. I really like this idea, and I wear at least one handknit every day in winter (usually a scarf and mitts). But I haven’t quite figured out how to get pictures – I’m usually at work and my workmates already think I’m bonkers for having a blog!

  5. I’m wearing a knit sweater right now. I always wear my knits, especially during the winter. I’d say I wear one of my sweaters/cardigans every week, a scarf every day and a hat depending on how windy it is. No photos though.

  6. I really like this idea! I am wearing a lot of my handknits, both accessoires like hats and gloves and garments like cardigans, sweaters and skirts. My photo, nevertheless is fron a garment I wore only twice up to now: my wedding dress.

  7. I do wear my knits, although it was surprisingly difficult to find a good photo of them. Here is one I found, of my Bricks and Mortar Tunic by Deborah Newton, published in Interweave Knits. The photo was taken by the canal, me and a friend of mine were accompanying our husbands on their fishing expedition.

  8. I ja bas sad nosim teget prsluk, odlican mi je za po kuci – topao na telu, a slobodne ruke :)

Odlicna ti je ideja za ovu igru !
    Moram pretraziti arhivu slika ……..

  9. What a fun idea! I do wear my handknits, up until recently it has mostly been socks, hats and scarves but I just finished knitting my first cardigan. I wore it to my husband’s grandparents’ golden wedding anniversary party and got this photo of me pulling a silly face whilst wearing it.

  10. Since I wear my handknits almost every day, it’s pretty easy to find a picture of me wearing one of them. However, this is the best – It was taken yesterday afternoon and is a picture of me holding my first grandchild who was born Saturday afternoon. I’m wearing Romi Hill’s Merope Shawl, but obviously it is neither the shawl nor the wearer who is the star of this picture. :-)

  11. I found only one picture !!!
Here it is, back in 2006. in Novi Sad …. Us two are counting money, because it was some 20 friends in the tavern :)

  12. The kids and I having a walk when we went away for a weekend last November. This is my favourite of all my hats.

I’m probably wearing handknitted socks too.

  13. I wear my knits all of the time, but there are a few which I rarely even take off. I think I perhaps wear my Baktus more than anything else, so I have chosen a picture of that.

As I rarely have anyone who wants to take my picture, many of my shots have been quick snaps when I have been travelling. This is me on the train, on the way home from a recent hospital stay and recovery, sending a webcam picture using my laptop to email a picture to say I can’t wait to get back to my home and friends.
