I did a tiny little bit of knitting last night. Mmm, twisted ribbing! This is your standard p1, k1tbl in the round. And such a gorgeous effect!
Whenever I do twisted ribbing, I fall in love with it all over again and get the urge to use it on every single project… But, as a friend agreed with me today, it’s best not to over-use it and save it for those truly special occasions. :) At the moment, I think it’s the prettiest thing in the world (I’m not as convinced about the lace motif the beginnings of which you can also glimpse, but we’ll still see about that). It’s even more beautiful stretched out, but it was cold outside, sorry! I could barely keep my hands from shaking to snap this!
p.s. I’ve given this colour the pet name Midnight Blue. I, the enemy of all things dark, have completely fallen for it.
I LOVE twisted ribbing but have recently vowed NEVER to knit it flat. Never never never.
Yours looks lovely – like little plaits.
I once tried to improvise it flat, and after two rows got completely confused.. I didn’t know what was purl and what was knit and what I was supposed to do through which loop, it was a big mess! :D I promptly gave up on that idea :)
I’m doing twisted rib for the first time with my Beatnik, and I looooooooove the way it looks. Too bad it can be such a pain to knit!
Your’s looks great – love the color!
Yup, it’s definitely slower, if nothing else. Funny thing is, a good friend of mine who recently started knitting had a big dispute with her Mom over twisted knitting. Her Mom had taught her to knit ALL stitches through the back loop (that’s just how she knits!) and then there was I telling her that you were supposed to do it the other way… LOL. In the end the Mom “lost” (it’s actually the friend I mentioned in the post), the two of us agreed twisted stitches are for special occasions only ;)
Kad se samo setim koliko mi je trebalo da ukarpiram to famozno “tbl”. I sad mi smešno:)!
Hehe, da, kad sam ga prvi put vidjela meni je prva asocijacija bio nekakav stol (table) i ništa mi nije bilo jasno :)
I completely understand :) I do twisted ribbing almost every time, esp. if its 1×1 or 2×2. With ribbings that contain a higher number of knit stitches, the effect can be better with regular, through the front loop ribbing.
Hmm, interesting. I hadn’t thought about it in terms of numbers of stitches… For me it’s just two completely different effects, twisted knit stitches seem to pop out much more, as if they’re pushed out of the knitted item, while through-the-front-loop stitches lie flatter. So if I don’t want the ribbing to be particularly noticeable, if it’s just there to make that part of the garment stretchy (e.g. waist..), then I don’ tthink I’d want twisted stitches, they’d draw too much attention to themselves, if you get what I mean.
Twisted rib is awesome, I totally agree. looks just a little bit nicer than normal ribbing!
k1tbl and I….are NOT BFF. We are trying though….I’m doing the String Theory scarf…and there’s a whooole lot of that. *sigh*
Here’s something a friend of mine pointed out, which might make you like them more: think of how much easier it is to do k2tog or k3tog through the back loop. I hate doing those stitches normally, things are always too tight and I feel like I’m breaking my fingers and the needles when I do them. Through the back loop, on the other hand… :)
I feel the same way about twisted stitches. They’re so beautiful!
I don’t particularly love or hate twisted rib either way. I’ll agree that it looks well defined and crisp, but I’m really more a fan of flow in patterns. If you’re twisting all the knits, sure, twist the rib. If you’re not, just leave it the way it is. More matchy.
Oh yes, I’m all about matchy! This one goes from twisted rib to lace with lots of ssk and k2tog, which kind of have the same look as ktbl, so it satisfies that criterion ;)
I love twisted ribbing too – so crisp and stretchy at the same time. Is this going to be a hat?
Nope, legwarmers…
Zima je gore, ha? Ovdje je proljeće. :D Išla sam juče do dućana u dva duga rukava, od kojih je jedan bio skroz tanka pamučna majca, a drugi pamučna jakna. I bilo mi je vruće. :D
Odi vrit. That’s what I say to that. :)
No no no, you shouldn’t “save it,” you should use twisted stitches all the time! I love me a bit of twisted ribbing, and twisted cables? Swoon.
I downloaded this pattern last week and looking at your start makes me want to run and start but I have two things on the needles already. I think I will finish at least one of them first, maybe…..
Ooh, we could have a knitalong! :) I didn’t make any progress on it after this photo was taken, I’m on a trip this week and as usual on trips, almost no knitting is happening… I hope to continue on Monday, though, maybe we can cheer each other on! I’m not a big fan of lots of repetitive lace, so I’ll probably need the cheering…
I love twisted rib, too!
